本地公司成功研发能在三个月自动降解吸管

塑料吸管被视为环保大敌之一,因为它难以降解,但是我们喝饮料时又难免用到它。再过几个月,本地市场上将出现一种只需三个月就能自动分解消失的吸管,让我们使用后不会破坏环境。

这个由本地科技创新公司RWDC Industries研发的可生物降解(biodegradable)吸管,原材料为聚羟基脂肪酸酯(Polyhydroxyalkanoates,简称PHA)。

PHA是一种由糖、植物油等材料发酵而成,具有与塑料相近性质的物质。正因为这种特性,使得PHA具有取代一次性塑料制成吸管、杯盖、纸张涂料、食品饮料包装等的潜力。

RWDC Industries亚太区总裁萧照倓受访时说:“PHA吸管可以说是世界上独一无二可生物降解的吸管。无须高温、无须过高湿度,即便丢进泥土里、淡水里或海水里,也能在三个月内完全变成二氧化碳、水等,完全不会留下任何有毒残留物。“预计到了今年中,我们将在新加坡与美国等地开始售卖这种新型吸管,希望能卖给一些食品制造商,如包装饮料制造商等。我们推出这种吸管其实并不会与鼓励公众减少使用吸管的运动背道而驰。我们希望能在鼓励大家减少使用吸管的大前提下,若还要使用吸管的话,就尽可能使用这种对环境无害的可生物降解吸管。”

RWDC Industries凭借这个可生物降解的吸管项目,成功在去年从超过200个来自全球34个国家的提呈项目中脱颖而出,赢得首届宜居挑战(Liveability Challenge),并获得淡马锡生态欣荣基金会(Temasek Foundation Ecosperity)提供的98万元奖金,用于资助PHA吸管的生产。

各地机构可参加宜居挑战

由淡马锡生态欣荣基金会与本地环保媒体公司Eco-Business联合举办的2019年宜居挑战,从即日起欢迎世界各地的机构、企业针对热带城市提呈与能源和循环经济(circular economy)相关的方案,促进永续生活和改善环境。最终的大赢家将获得淡马锡生态欣荣基金会提供最多100万元的项目发展资助、众筹宣传,以及由业界人士提供指导的机会。

淡马锡生态欣荣基金会总裁林福全受访时指出,各种得以生产能源、保存能源,减少碳排放等的提呈,都是大家乐见的方案。宜居挑战呈交提案的截止日期为4月5日,有兴趣者可登入www.theliveabilitychallenge.org了解详情及报名。
